Andrew Smith was raised a preacher’s kid in a small Nebraska farm town where he first learned the importance of working hard and treating others fairly. After graduating from the University of Nebraska School of Law in 2002, his first four years of practice focused on defending cases against his insurance company clients and their insureds. This valuable experience taught him the “behind the scenes” approach insurance companies and their lawyers take in evaluating, defending and settling claims; lessons he uses often today as he pursues a fair result for his clients.
Andy’s heart has always been with the underdog. In 2006, he joined Humphrey, Farrington & McClain and has been fighting for those without a voice in the legal system ever since. He represents working people and their loved ones injured by the careless or purposeful conduct of corporations. Forcing those companies and their insurers to treat his clients fairly honors the small town values he learned as a boy.
Whether it be a factory worker catastrophically injured by dangerous chemicals at work, a student defrauded by a sham “college”, or a homeowner whose insurance company refuses to cover losses to a family’s home, Andy works equally hard to secure his client the fair compensation they deserve.
Andy lives in Lee’s Summit with his wife and five sons.
